Urban Youth Program Sponsors a Community Clean Up

Jacksonville Youth Works (JYW), a non-profit organization that provides assistance for young men ages 16-24 that are re-entering back into society after a brief or long-term imprisonment. According to the organization, the diverse program helps convicted felons, high school dropouts and at-risk teens create a personal vision and path for their future.

Volunteer counselors teach the young men life skills, job placement and mentorship. Each month the organization plans events to engage the youth to participate in volunteer opportunities and on the job training with local corporations. One of the main program initiatives is the “Live Youth Rally,” a beautification project near the boundaries of Myrtle Ave. and Kings Road near Downtown Jacksonville

This past weekend the JYW team of 20 youth and mentors with gloves on their hands, held brooms and garbage bags and commenced to clean distressed areas of the neighborhood.  Youth and mentors also spoke to neighbors and pledged to keep the area free of debris.
