Jacksonville Sister Cities Association and the Ritz Theater museums recently presented the 23rd annual ‘9/11 Peace Concert,’ in remembrance of the 911 tragedy and our nations resilience. Guest speaker was Chief Keith Powers of the Jacksonville Fire Rescue department with musical performances and personal connection testimonies to the 9/11 NYC tragedy. Since 1967, The Sister Cities program has been an international initiative that promotes peace through people-to-people diplomacy throughout cities around the nation. President Dwight Eisenhower started the program in 1956 to encourage mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation. Membership dues assist with helping local clubs, important business, cultural, educational, and professional exchanges with our Sister and Friendship cities globally. Jacksonville sister cities include: Bahia Blanca, Argentina; Curitiba, Brazil; Changwon City, South Korea; Murmansk, Russia; Nantes, France; Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, South Africa; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Yingkou, China.
