Partnering to connect the community to register to vote, the Perry Moore Group partnered with the Jacksonville Urban League Guild for a voters rally at the Standard Feed and Seed on Myrtle Avenue. The Perry – Moore Group was formed on December 14th, 2023 to register more voters in the city of Jacksonville. The nine-member organization, along with volunteers has been appearing around the city at various events and venues registering new voters. “Our mission statement is to increase voter registration by providing awareness and education within the communities,” stated President James B. Williams Jr.
The group recently made a pilgrimage to the Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Justice Center in Mims, Florida. The center has a museum, gift shop, reference library and the original Moore’s Family Home.
In the 1930’s and 40’s Harry and Harriette signed up black voters throughout the state, organized more than 50 Florida branches of the NAACP and investigated lynching around the state. Their efforts for Justice and equality cost them their lives when their home was bombed on Christmas Day. Taking a page from the Moore’s book of voter pilgrimage, the Perry-Moore group goal is to continue encouraging all registered voters to make sure their voter information is up to date at the Supervisor of Elections office and to stay informed about current voter issues and exercising their right to vote on Election Day. The goal is to spread the word that every 2024 vote will count and participation is key to a vibrant democracy and through education the group we will be able to increase voter registration and turnout.
