No Gentrification Here! Groundworks Upgrading Neighborhoods One House at a Time

In just the first few months of the North Riverside Home Repair Program, several families have benefited from the home repair program. To date, five home projects have been completed and three more applications have been approved with 14 applications in the queue to be reviewed. In total, 46 homes will be repaired as part of the program through  a 1.2 million grant. Each recipient can receive from $5-20K for their homes.

A resident for over ten years, Bonnie Smart home was the recipient of a new “cool roof” that reflects sunlight and stays cooler by reducing the amount of heat conducted into the structure along with gutters and rain barrels.

The North Riverside home repair program a partnership between Northwest Riverside Community Development Corporation (NRCDC) and Groundworks Jax and is managed by a resident-led construction committee that employs a case manager to identify eligible properties, and a construction manager to oversee each project.

The program is available to homeowners living in the Mixon Town or Lackawanna neighborhoods.  To be eligible, the home must be the full-time residence and the homeowner must prove clear title to the property and that all property taxes are up to date.
