Neighborhood “Studio” Backdrops as Passion of Local Artist

By Lynn Jones – While art may lie in the eye of the beholder, so does the creation of it. Along the corridors of Pearl Street resides artist Will Carpenter. Carpenter has been painting for more than 50 years. At the age of 12, his mother inspired him to pursue a career as an artist. Carpenter matriculated in 1988 from Tennessee State University and dived into teaching at local schools in the town of Chattanooga, TN. Arriving in Jacksonville in 2013, Carpenter began teaching at Frank Peterson Academy, Ribault High School as an art instructor. During his career he has painted hundreds of portraits on canvas and has the goal of a total of 50 paintings for display to showcase around the world.  Though admirers often commission his work, Carpenter mostly paints for fun and that includes in his front yard.

“No one or nothing should keep you from your passion,” said Carpenter.
