Naval Officers Continue to Serve Their Country Through Student Aid

In an effort to not only serve their nation, but help others, the National Naval Officers Association (NNOA) Jacksonville Chapter recently made a positive impact on the local community by donating over $1,000 in backpacks and school supplies to needy students.

According to members of NNOA, having the right school supplies is the first step that enables a child to perform well academically.  Each year the organization makes a sincere effort to positively impact the community and the lives of children by identifying local schools that need their support.  This year, the organization partnered with Saint Clair Evans Academy and Oceanway Elementary Schools.

“We present schools supplies to these two schools to have an encouraging impact on each child’s learning development and to ensure an easy back to school process. Education is always the key,” said NNOA Member Helena Washington.

NNOA is an organization composed of active duty, reserve and retired officers, midshipmen and cadets, and interested civilians. The organization is comprised of members of all ranks and ethnic groups.  NNOA supports the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in recruiting, developing, and retaining a diverse officer corps. Members say that the goal is to attract and retain officers that represent the best our nation has to offer. Shown are students with their new supplies as the officers share in the moment on stage.
