Local Businessman Puts His Money Where His Heart is by Culturally Developing Lavilla Students

Ken Moore, owner of International Blades and Shears (IBS) recently sponsored a historical visual arts contest with the theme “LaVilla History: Past and Present” for students at LaVilla School of the Arts. The contest engaged and encouraged students to learn more about LaVilla’s rich and esteemed history. Students were challenged to research and depict the culture of LaVilla to include artwork and an artist statement of their inspiration and how it represents LaVilla and its history. “It was important to me that the students who attend LaVilla School of the Arts understand the history that surrounds their school,” said Moore.

“I loved that the students had to not only create art, but conduct some research about the visual art concept,” said Coleman – Moss. “Being a judge for the LaVilla Historical Visual Arts Contest was a teachable moment for me. I learned a great deal about history, music and architecture in the LaVilla area.”  Winners received gift cards and all participants enjoyed a catered pizza party

Shown judging the contests L to R is Elexia Coleman-Moss,  Ashley Szczukowski and Ronnie King.
