The Johnson Family YMCA Board of Directors recently hosted its Kentucky Derby Party Fundraiser with the city’s skyline views from Cowford Chophouse’s rooftop as the backdrop.
This annual fundraiser benefits the historic 76 year-old James Weldon Johnson Family YMCA located on 5700 Cleveland Road on Jacksonville’s Northside. This year’s Derby Party raised more than $7K to assist with daily programming. The curated evening included a silent auction, raffles, live entertainment, delicious cuisine and Derby-inspired beverages.
Board Member and Committee Chair, Wanda Jones and Board Chair Mincy Pollock planned and executed the sold-out fundraiser highlighting the 150th renewal of “The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports.” Mystik Dan won the race in a photo finish by a hair over Sierra Leone and Forever Young. The afternoon also included a best-dressed contest as participants donned their hats and seersucker suits. Next, the Johnson YMCA will host its Family Reunion Festival on Friday, June 14, for a free community event with bar-b-que, frozen treats, kid and teen zones, line-dancing, community resources, and much more family fun with featured musical guests The Grove Coalition.
