-Group Advocating For Second Chance Employment, Housing and Voting Initiatives on February 16th- TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – February 7, 2022 Florida Rights Restoration Coalition (FRRC), including hundreds of returning citizens from across Florida, will return to the State Capitol for the annual Legislative Advocacy Day on February 16th. Advocacy Day provides an opportunity for returning citizens and other directly-impacted individuals — such as those who were affected by the conviction or incarceration of a family member — to meet with their lawmakers and advocate for policies that will improve our local communities.
The theme for Advocacy Day 2022 is “Our Vote, Our Voice, Our Vision.”
FRRC and hundreds of returning citizens from across the state will make our voices heard during Advocacy Day 2022 in Tallahassee, Florida throughout the day on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. FRRC members will meet with lawmakers and advocate for policies that improve our communities by breaking down barriers to employment, housing and democracy for returning citizens.
FRRC Executive Director Desmond Meade will lead this year’s Advocacy Day. Meade, who is nationally recognized, led a constitutional amendment campaign that restored voting rights for 1.4 million people with felony convictions in 2018.
“Advocacy Day is a great opportunity for local leaders and people who have been impacted by the criminal justice system to advocate for policy changes that will improve our communities,” said Meade. “We look forward to empowering FRRC members from across the state to have their voices heard at the state capitol.”
