David Manor Celebrates 80th Birthday in Grand Style

David Manor, one of East Jacksonville’s most well known and beloved seniors, was honored by his daughter, Davida Manor Ward, M.D., at a celebration of his 80th birthday last Saturday at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel.   About 100 of his friends (Baron’s, Free Masons, Shriners) and church members gathered, feasted and danced to the slide pomp of DJ Charles Scantling.  Superb artistic tributes from dancer Faith Norton captivated the guests.  What a wonderful tribute it was for David, whom his childhood peers called him “Sonny”, to have his friends let him “smell the roses” for a lifetime of child rearing, merchant seamanship, and property upkeep management for several commercial buildings in downtown Jacksonville.  David is a WWII army veteran, and for many years he has shared his talents and skills with Historic Mount Zion AME church, serving unselfishly as a Steward and liaison Trustee. David and his wife Carrie led the guest dancing, as energetic as in years gone by, and the memories of his friends – the good times and the bad times, captured a perfect moment in the life of a solid citizen of Jacksonville. “What a celebration of life it was, it was the wonderful stuff of memories that won’t be soon forgotten,” said longtime friend Dr. C.B. McIntosh. Pictured are the many friends and family members celebrating David Manor birthday.
