By C. Holsey | The First Coast National Pan Hellenic Council (FCNPHC) recently hosted a Community Fun Day at A. Philip Randolph Heritage Eastside Park. The day long event was led by Monica Richardson, FCNPHC Community Relations Chair and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority member.
“This was a time for our Council to give back to the community and let them know they are valued,’ said Richardson.
Over 120 community members and youth were in attendance. Each Divine Nine organization was represented on site and actively participated in the events planning. The event provided education to attendees regarding eligible community services resources, and ways to access them. Partners included several community organizations that set up tables and tents to share their information and support with donations and in-kind contributions. Participants perused everything from brochures from financial institutions, credit health details and info on home ownership to ways to register for Early Head Start children educational services and the urgent issue of food insecurity by providing community members and families with ample groceries on site. Youth were excited to access the events kids corner bounce house, face painting, popcorn and snow cones amenities. The game of musical chairs was a competitive hit, followed by a DJ, line dancing, free lunch and give-a-ways.
The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated (NPHC) is composed of nine (9) International Greek letter Sororities and Fraternities. NPHC promotes interaction through forums, meetings and other mediums for the exchange of information and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions. The First Coast NPHC Jacksonville chapter is under the leadership of Joslyn Simmons, member, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Beta Alpha Zeta Chapter.
