Jacksonville’s Upsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. took their Men of Valor mentees to Cecil Commerce Center for a three day outing.

The boys, ages 6 through 16, experienced the fundamentals of  golf at the New World Sports Complex, visited the Jacksonville Jetport and learned about aviation, visited and swam at the Cecil Aquatics Center and participated in a nature trail hike.  They also bonded with each other for outdoor and food experiences, games, TV and as hotel roommates. Since its inception over five years ago, The Men of Valor program has mentored males to discuss various topics such as time management, health initiatives, sexual encounters and careers.

Men of Valor program is a yearlong program that stretches throughout the students elementary, secondary and high school years and eventually college where the young men will engage career and fraternity aspirations. The young men also participated in the Project Alpha youth awareness seminar in conjunction with the Duval County Health department, which teaches adolescent young men about the responsibilities and consequences of premature and unprotected sex. Meetings are held very 4th Saturday of each month at West Jacksonville Church of God in Christ.
