In a heartwarming display of community spirit and teamwork, members of Alpha Beta Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated® partnered with other organizations to revitalize garden and plant winter crops at R.L. Brown Elementary School. This initiative aimed to enhance environmental awareness among students and foster a sense of responsibility and pride in their school environment.

Volunteers joined faculty, students and parents armed with gloves and rakes worked side by side, pulling weeds, aerating the soil, and clearing debris. The volunteers also assisted the students in planting Georgia Collards, broccoli, curly kale, Brussels sprouts, herbs, and cauliflower.

The volunteers taught students about sustainable gardening practices, the importance of biodiversity, the role of plants in the ecosystem, environmental stewardship, and the joys of growing one’s food.

“The success of this cleanup and planting day is a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared goal,” said partner Arlene Lloyd.
