Residents Empowered at Community Resource Fair

 Nearly 400 Jacksonville residents attended the ‘I Am We: Community Resource Fair,’ at the IBEW Union Hall last weekend. The Fair was hosted by the New Florida Majority to offer resources and support to the youth and families in the Northwest Jacksonville area who offered are unable to attain these everyday necessities due to finances, proximity, or lack of knowledge.

“It’s all about trying to get information out about the great services available in the community, to really help people become more aware of what these agencies and organizations do and how they can serve the people in Jacksonville,” stated Christian Gonzalez-Orbegoso, New Florida Majority North Florida Organizer. “It’s a great feeling to see the outpouring of individuals and organizations that care for the people of our community.”
Resources offered at the Fair included free haircuts, legal services, information on health and wellness, and employment opportunities. Feeding Northeast Florida, donated more than $8,400 in groceries, household supplies, and toiletries to attendees. In addition, information and assistance to formerly incarcerated citizens with outstanding court fines and fees.
“We all need a little help sometimes and giving parents the opportunity to inquire about our resources, while we were able to keep their children happy and entertained was a great feeling,” said Michael Todd, New Florida Majority Lead Organizer.
