Annual Sickle Cell Walk Unites Grievers and Activists for a Cause

The Northeast Florida Sickle Cell Disease Association kicked off its 5K event from Florida State College, downtown campus. Led by President Alpha G. Hay the walk was one of many held in the city boosting worthy causes.

The morning begin with a pledge by local scouts and an exercise session followed by memoirs of those who lost loved ones to the disease.   Action News Jax Anchor Dawn Lopez, shared personal experiences of close friends with sickle cell disease and encouraged the group to use the power of social media to spread the word about sickle cell disease.
Several groups also came together to walk in memory of family and friends that have been lost to sickle cell disease. They carried banners and shirts bearing their likeness in memory of their lost loved ones.
