Don’t Miss A Beat (DMAB) summer campers performed the Broadway production of “Dreamgirls” for more than 600 people showcasing their skills in the arts. Their incredible performance was met with a standing ovation from the audience.  The story follows the history and evolution of a fictional R&B music group during the 1960s and 1970s through the eyes of “The Dreams” and their controlling record executive.
DMAB organization has produced a plethora of plays through their Summer Camp “Broadway Edition,” a six-week summer camp immersing youth in the power and freedom of the arts inside their community arts center located on Beaver Street. Founded in 2008, the program began with the singular objective of helping suspended youth stay in school so they wouldn’t “miss a beat.” Today, Don’t Miss A Beat blends music, art, academic achievement and civic engagement to enhance the lives of children, teens and their parents in the at-hope neighborhoods. Shown are youth McKinley Taylor, MicGracious Grant and Alyssa Warren honing their creative arts skills.
