Volunteer Community Still Prepping Students for Class

By Lynn Jones – This weekend ‘Back To School’ drives were on the schedule for local Duval County students with several Drive-Thru Back to School Bashes. At Jean Ribault High School families had the opportunity to learn about health resources available through Wolfson Children’s Health Center, Ribault’s school-based health center created to give students in underserved communities access to health care. Students and their parent/legal guardian were able to drive through the event to receive free backpacks and school supplies, along with a face mask. Each attendee received a hot dog, chips and a drink, The event was free and open to the community.

 Step-by-Step Behavioral Health Services also held their third annual Book Bag giveaway to children at Open Arms Community Church on Dunn Avenue.  The diverse bash included masks, hand sanitizers and onsite mental health assessments.  Both giveaways distributed more that more 700 book bags to local community students.
