The Jacksonville Alphas Award Scholarships and Recognition to High School Orators

The Upsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. rewarded nine students at its MLK Oratorical Competition, Saturday, February 4, 2017.

Celebrating it’s 9th anniversary, Upsilon Lambda, the Jacksonville alumni chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, showcased nine outstanding high school men at the Jean Ribault Senior High School Auditorium.  The chosen contestants demonstrated great courage and skill as they delivered speeches on the topic of “…The role of males in upholding or fostering respect for females in today’s society.” The Alphas recognized all of the participants with certificates of participation and awarded $5,500 in college scholarships to the top five finalists.  It was a morning devoted to the support and future of Jacksonville youth. Entertainment and inspiration was provided by youth dancers and “Men of Valor” mentees of the chapter.  The event concluded with lunch and social time at the school’s media center.
