Café Liberation, a one year culinary training program for at risk youth ages 15-19, recently presented A Night of Exquisite Service sponsored by Krumpin 4 Success Inc. The youth in the local program receive instructional support, enabling them to achieve their full potential as young adults. The Café Liberation four course dining experience was held at the Westbrook Community Center. Invited guests were greeted by young apprentices with a smile. The menu included crab cakes, salmon cakes, filet skewers, Caesar baked salmon and chicken masala. The meal was completed with buttery pound cake with fresh strawberries and blueberries topped with a crème fraiche – all prepared by the students. The evening ended with guests Kara Williams and Denise Daniels pledging $500 to the programs summer camp initiatives.
“We are excited that the guest came out today to experience Café Liberation and able to view the students and their participation in the program,” said Krumpin 4 Success Executive Director Shanna Carter. Graduates from the program receive a certificate from the American Culinary Federation and a one year membership food handler’s certificate and opportunities from ACF for competitions and events. The culinary program is under the leadership of Chef Harvey of Crystols Catering.
“These students could have been anywhere on a Friday night, yet they chose to be here and they look forward to the next night of exquisite service to the community,” said Carter.
