*This morning on SiriusXM’s The Joe Madison Show, Rep.James Clyburn and Rep.Maxine Waters called in to the program to discuss the coronavirus pandemic, what Congress is doing about it, and whether Presidential primaries should move forward during this crisis.Rep. Maxine Waters said all American adults should receive $1,000, and each kid $500, every month, while Rep. James Clyburn said “we are where we are because of a lack of coherent competent leadership.”

Financial Services Committee Chair Maxine Waters told Joe Madison: “We need to stimulate the economy. We’ve got to put money into the hands of the people who would otherwise not be able to buy food for their families and their children because they’re getting laid off…or they may get fired, or the plant may close down. We want to put $1,000 into the hands of every American, every month. And my legislation calls for $1,000 to every adult and $500 for every kid.”

House Majority Whip James Clyburn: “What we had in 2008 won’t even compare to what is going to take place now if we don’t get leadership in that White House. We are where we are today because of the lack of coherent, competent leadership in the Office of the President. That’s why I am doing as much as I possibly can to restore dignity and respect and competence to the White House.”

Maxine Waters: All Americans Should Receive $1,000 a Month:

Maxine Waters:

My committee early on, sent out letters and questionnaires to all of the financial services area including all of the banks, all of wall street. We wanted to know what are your plans and what are you doing. And we’re following up with that with what will be our third set of information and corrections that we’re putting out from Congress in addition to the $800 billion bill that we first put out. As you know, there was a second bill that’s now languishing over in the Senate that will take care of making sure that everyone can get tested without cost. Making sure that there is paid sick leave dealing with families first as we call it. And then now my committee is working on another bill where we lead off with saying that we need to stimulate the economy. We’ve got to put money into the hands of the people who would otherwise not be able to buy food for their families and their children because they’re getting laid off. Minimal jobs, workers where they make minimum pay, or they may get fired or the plant may close down. We want to put $1,000 into the hands of every American every month, and my mind legislation calls for $1,000 to every adult and $500 to every kid, and now everybody’s trying to catch up with that, and I think we better be able to get that done.

Host, Joe Madison:

Did I hear you say every month do that or a one time payment?

Maxine Waters:

Oh no, this is,I’m going for every month. This is no onetime payment. We don’t know how long this thing is going to last and we don’t understand what danger people are in. And some people are saying, well, $1000 a month is not enough, but I’m concerned about food and the ability to put food on the children’s table.

James Clyburn: There is a “Lack of Coherent, Competent Leadership in the Office of the President”

Host, Joe Madison:

In case you didn’t hear, for my audience, someone is suggesting that auto factories, Ford, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler shut down for two weeks.

James Clyburn:

Well, you know what that would do to South Carolina again, everybody looks to Detroit, and I know you know a little bit about Detroit, but let me tell you something. We got BMW up there in Greenville. We got Volvo and Mercedes-Benz. People don’t know that the so-called Sprinter, that car made by Mercedes Benz, every Sprinter is made in North Charleston, South Carolina. Volvo, is now making the XC60, are here in South Carolina and BMW, up in Greenville. If these places closed for two weeks, not just what would happen to the people there on the jobs, but what would happen to those local communities when no shopping has taken place, when people can’t afford to go shopping. That is what makes this thing even worse. What we had in 2008 won’t even compare with what is going to take place now if we don’t get leadership in that White House. We are where we are today because of the lack of core coherent, competent leadership in the Office of the President. That’s why I’m doing as much as I possibly can to restore dignity and respect and competence to the White House.
