Science Academy Student Wins Jax PBS Kids Writers Contest

River City Science Academy student Kyler Nixon

Congratulations are in order for River City Science Academy student Kyler Nixon, a bright six-year-old kindergartener who has won first place in the Kindergarten Division of the 2025 Jax PBS KIDS Writers Contest. Kyler’s winning story, titled “I Have a Dream,” captured the hearts of judges with its creativity, strong message, and colorful illustrations. The contest, hosted annually by WJCT Public Media, invites children from kindergarten through third grade to write and illustrate their own original stories, encouraging literacy and a love for storytelling from an early age. As a first-place winner, Kyler was honored with a special award package that includes a certificate, a PBS KIDS prize bag, and the opportunity to share the story aloud during ‘Be My Neighbor Day,‘ an event that celebrates kindness, community, and the spirit of Fred Rogers. Kyler’s story, along with other winning entries, is available to read online at wjct.org/writerscontest.
