Natalie’s Nook and Candy Shop grand opening was held last weekend to hundreds of patrons standing in line for an old fashioned ice cream cone! The candy shop is located on the Eastside on A. Phillip Randolph Blvd and is the only one of its kind for miles. Natalie’s Nook is named after “Moxie” author Natalie McGriff. McGriff and her mother political organizer Angie Nixon, are the team behind the creative candy shop, which endeavors engage youth to in entrepreneurship, money management and a “you can do it” attitude.

The idea for the shop was a mother daughter collective agreement to bring a candy shop to the Eastside area that is still reeling from economic blight and small business displacement. Neighbors were excited to get a glimpse of the shop and peruse their favorite ice cream flavors. “I’m happy that the shop is in our neighborhood.  My kids read Moxie books. Her mom and daughter are role models in our community.  Vanilla is my kid’s favorite. We look forward to regularly getting ice cream from the nook,” said neighborhood resident Lisa Waldron
