Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate the 70-year music ministry of its First Lady, Mrs. Ethel Lee Wright, with a three-day Music Institute June 21st-23rd. Dr. Barbara McNeely Bouie, nationally known church music clinician and music consultant to the African Methodist Episcopal Church, will conduct the 2-day workshop (June 21-22) teaching the choir her arrangement of God’s Trombones. The Institute will culminate Friday, June 23 at 7pm with a public concert featuring the Workshop Choir.
Mrs. Wright presently serves as the Minister of Music at Mt. Pleasant where her husband, Rev. Robert Layton Wright, serves as pastor. Out of her 70-year career as a church musician, she has served Mt. Pleasant for 40 years. She is a talented singer, pianist, teacher, and mentor to other musicians. She has been blessed with the God-given talent to replicate any song she hears on the piano. Her entire family has also inherited her singing talent.
The Ethel Lee Wright Music Institute invites all those who love to sing church music and spirituals to participate in the Institute Choir and study with Dr. Bouie. Institute participants are asked to donate $5 each evening to cover Institute costs. The workshops begin at 6pm on the 21st and 22nd in the Mt. Pleasant sanctuary.
To register for the Institute, send the name of the church, number of persons in the group, contact person’s name and phone number to Mtpleasantanniversaryinfo@gmail.com.
