Bravo’s “Married to Medicine” stars Dr. Damon Kimes and Dr. Heavenly Kimes—known as Dr. Heavenly—held a COVID-19 testing drive, with 64 mobile testing buses, on Saturday, July 18, at World Changers Church International in College Park. The husband and wife duo were joined by “Married to Medicine” co-star Dr. Jackie Walters.

The event was apart of Kimes’ Operation Georgia Know York Status, an initiative to provide fully-equipped, COVID-19 mobile testing sites for insured and uninsured citizens.

“For me, it goes back to when 9-11 happened and I was a first-year resident in a hospital here in Georgia, and I just felt like I wasn’t doing enough. And I felt a calling to do more. But I didn’t listen to that call,” Kimes said.

“That was almost 20 years ago, but I said that if I ever get that opportunity again to do more, I was not going to back away.COVID-19 came our way and I said ‘I’m going to do my part. I don’t know how much of a part, but I’m going to do it.”

A triple board-certified physician, Kimes is a pain medicine specialist and serves as the chief medical officer of Roswell Pain Pros. He is also a certified emergency medicine physician.

Kimes said once he figured out that the testing infrastructure in Atlanta and Georgia was woefully insufficient to letting people know if they have the disease or not, he established Georgia Know Your Status, a 64-bus fleet of mobile testing sites that enable denizens to learn if they are positive or not.

He partnered with 23 Consulting LLC., and Samson Tours to provide testing. Damon Kimes and his partners will be offering testing for COVID-19 throughout the Southeast.

“I’m just so proud of my husband,” said Dr. Heavely as she beamed with pride over her husband’s accomplishment. “He had an idea and he executed on it to let people know their status.”

“Not only that, but we are also able to educate people about COVID,” Dr. Heavenly continued. “People just don’t know and I didn’t know. And we’re doing our part to give back to the community and to help save lives. Black Lives Matter.”

Kimes and his wife both expressed how inconsequential it is to be concerned with how the country got to this pathetic point where we’re experiencing a second explosion of the coronavirus.

In their opinion, the point is that we’re here now and we need to obliterate this highly communicable virus expeditiously. And for them, it starts with helping individuals to know whether or not they are asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19.

From there, folks can take appropriate action such as sequestering themselves and administering medicinal actions.

After Georgia experienced a downward trajectory in the number of COVID cases in April and May, cases have suddenly skyrocketed and patients are now burdening the state’s healthcare system.

And what Kimes is doing for the community is commendable, he said that he doesn’t want recognition, just others to get involved.

“We don’t really talk about who you’re doing, or giving back,” Kimes said. “It’s not really about that. I really don’t want any recognition for what we do. We like to keep that very quiet.

“But everyone can get involved. Or give of their time. There are people out here who are doing this for free.”

And this won’t be the last testing operation that Kimes will facilitate. Others can get involved or host testing events by visiting GeorgiaKnowYourStatus.com/Events.
