Hundreds of families, vendors and friends of the Kemetic Empire/Sankofa Initiative outreach trekked to Simonds Johnson Park for the 2nd annual Malcolm X Festival.
Located at the intersection of 12th Street and Moncrief Rd. in northwest Jacksonville, the park was packed with community activist, city leaders, families and friends proclaiming “by any means necessary” that the Northside community is an emerging emblem of peace.
Based on principles and practices of American Muslim minister and human rights activist Malcolm X, the festival incorporates a shared vision to build a healthier, cleaner, stronger and more vibrant community. Families are encouraged to attend the festival to educate themselves on African American culture and economic principles.
Festival founder and chair Diallo Sekou expressed, “this is our second year and the response was overwhelming. City leaders came out and spoke to the crowd, vendors came from near and far and yet our main goal is to help keep our neighborhoods safe, educate our children and continue the legacy of our African American heritage. If you going to talk the talk, you have to walk the walk. We out here walking and talking!”
