The Urban Leagues downtown conference room was the location for the League of Women Voters of Jacksonville First Coast forum with LWV United States President Dianna Wynn and LWV of Florida Co-Presidents Cecile Scoon, civil rights attorney and Deb Chandler, retired public defender.

Wynn’s visit to Jacksonville provided an opportunity to speak with Florida League leaders about her vision for the League to include collaboration with and support of other local grassroots nonpartisan organizations in efforts to register voters, connect voters with information that supports casting an informed vote and work that lifts up local issues and challenges. In the coming months, Leagues across the nation will be holding information sessions about the “One Person One Vote” campaign which aims to educate, engage, and activate the American people.

Local LWV chapter members listened intently and asked questions engaging speakers on their mission to achieve a new system for electing future presidents.  Wrapping up the forums Q&A period, the League introduced a multi-pronged approach to voting to be used for the 2024 election get out the vote campaign.

“The ‘One Person One Vote, will move our nation beyond the archaic Electoral College and toward true representation — a democracy powered by the people, for the people,” said Lanelle Phillmon, President, League of Women Voters Jacksonville First Coast.
