The Jacksonville Urban League held its 42nd Annual Equal Opportunity luncheon celebrating 68 years of service last week at the Hyatt Hotel.
The historical civil rights non-profit organization recognized individuals and corporations who made significant efforts in the areas of diversity and equal opportunity.
The event honored Rev. Levy Wilcox (Whitney M. Young National Leadership Award and the Clanzel T. Brown Award) JTA CEO Nathaniel Ford (Clanzel Brown Award) and Leerie Jenkins (Equal Opportunity Award). The guest speaker was Dr. Elmira Mangum, President of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida who spoke of the legendary HBCU’s lrgacy and future. Dr. Elmira Mangum has made history as the first permanent female president in the University’s 127-year legacy.
Funds from the sold out luncheon assist with the community services of the Jacksonville Urban League.
