Jax Urban Book Festival is Back!

B.G. Howard - "Family Ties: Thicker Than Blood"

By L. Jones – Jax Urban Book Festival (JUBF) organizer and self proclaimed ‘author groupie’ Natasha Slaughter is on a mission to reimagine books on the First Coast.  “Personally I’ve been a fan of authors and storytelling for a long time,” said Slaughter. After reading tons of books throughout the years, Slaughter has teamed with JUBF founder Dr. V. Dunbar for the 2nd annual Jax Urban Book Festival scheduled for Saturday, January 20th in James Weldon Johnson Park, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The bookfest will combine the business of authoring, storytelling and love of books. More than 20 authors are registered for the bookfest to engage in virtual and in-person workshops, library resource tools, how to publish and author mentorship/master class sessions. Slaughter elaborated, “We have to understand that authors are also entrepreneurs who pair passion and business together to flourish as an author.” Authors genres categories include: fictions, romance, motivational, crime, self-help, cookbooks and more! The events mission is to create an atmosphere where authors and book lovers can dialogue on the future and direction of African American authors, access to banned books and engaging the community on the fundamentals of reading and not scrolling!
