Jacksonville Public Library invites families to dive into a season of reading, creativity and discovery during Summer at Your Library, from June 2 through Aug. 2 at all 21 library locations. This year’s theme, “Color Our World,” celebrates how art and imagination enrich lives with eight weeks of free performances, hands-on labs, drop-in activities, and reading incentives designed to keep kids learning and engaged while school is out.
Kids and teens can jumpstart their summer by attending a Drop-In Summer Kick-Off Party, taking place June 2–7 at all 21 Jacksonville Public Library locations. Attendees can pick up a free book and calendar of upcoming programs, learn how to earn prizes through reading, and sign up for a library card if they don’t already have one.
Parents and caregivers can pick up Summer Reading Trackers to encourage their kids to read at least 20 minutes daily for 20 days for an additional prize. Completed trackers turned into any library location by Aug. 2 earn participants another free book while supplies last. Families can also join Mayor Deegan’s River City Readers challenge on the Beanstack app and explore summer book recommendations at jaxpubliclibrary.org/suggestions.
Throughout the summer, the Library will host a rotating lineup of Live from the Library performances–featuring musicians, scientists, animal experts and more. These events are designed for children ages 5–12 and their families and take place at every library location. Attendance is first come, first served, with check-in beginning 30 minutes before start time. Full schedules are available at jaxlibrary.org/livelibrary.
The summer program is made possible by Tenikka’s Books for Kids, the Library Foundation of Jacksonville, Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library, and generous community donors. Visit your local Jacksonville Public Library starting June 2 to pick up your reading tracker, join the fun, and start earning free books.
