Groundwork’s Jax Kicks-off Emerald Trail Routes

On Saturday, January 25, Groundwork Jacksonville, the City of Jacksonville, and the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) hosted a community meeting to kick off the Project Development and Environment Study (PD&E) for Emerald Trail segments 4, 6, 7 and 8. The year-long PD&E process involves studying the feasibility and social, economic and environmental effects of proposed trail routes and suggesting alternatives if necessary. The event, which was held at the FSCJ Advanced Technology Building on State Street, attracted residents from Brentwood, College Gardens, New Town, Durkeeville, North Riverside, Phoenix, Historic Eastside, Robinson’s Addition and Springfield. The project team reviewed the preliminary trail alignments that are being considered, and residents were able to ask questions and share their thoughts and concerns. Speakers included Nat Ford, CEO of JTA, Kay Ehas, CEO of Groundwork Jacksonville, Gloria McNair, Manager of Community Engagement & Equity for Groundwork Jacksonville and Ralph Bove, Vice President Southern Region, Volkert Inc. This was the first of several neighborhood and community meetings that will be held over the next year to gain resident feedback. For more information, email info@GroundworkJacksonville.org.
