It’s back to school time and parents around Duval County have diligently stood in lines retrieving free book bags and supplies for their kindergarten, jr. high or high school student. These past weekends have witnessed more than fifteen hundred children attend back to school events on the First Coast.

Ribault High School and Wolfson Children’s Hospital partnered for their 10th annual giveaway on campus grounds, providing food, entertainment and free books for students. Brentwood Housing Authority distributed bags to children at their apartment location on Village Center Dr. Truth in Love Ministries was also on the front line with backpacks for students in the urban core neighborhood surrounding their church.  Holding court on the east side was the Jacksonville Urban League Young Professionals, Center One Foundation and the Jacksonville Chapter of The Innovative Community Engagement Foundation lined up with tables of school supplies for children inside the Henry Brown Athletic Association located on the Eastside. The partnering organizations distributed over 125 backpacks with supplies to the school aged students (5-15 years old). The collaborative effort provided children of the Eastside community with the necessary materials they would need to prepare for a successful school year.
