Edward Waters College alumni from around the country met in Orlando, Florida this weekend for the 2015 EWC National Alumni Convention. The convention theme, titled “Moving our Association from Good to Great,” set the mood, as participants planned and partied.

The convention began on Thursday with the Presidential Reception. A series of plenary sessions took place on Friday and Saturday, where alumni focused on organizational structure, scholarships, and recruitment. “We worked on strengthening our association and providing the support our students and alma mater need,” said Immediate Past Alumni Association President Eric Johnson. The organization also elected new leadership, including new National Alumni President Shelia Williams (Class of 1981) and new National Vice President Padrica Mendez (Class of 1997).

At Friday’s Recognition Luncheon and Saturday’s Scholarship Banquet, alumni truly celebrated their best and brightest. 2015 honorees included Marjorie Brown (Outstanding Alumnus), Rodney Hurst (Special Recognition), Eurmon Hervey (Distinguished Service), Jessica Georges (Outstanding Young Alum), UNCF Hall of Fame (Malachi Beyah), Archie Gallon (Service Leadership), Stanley Cromartie (Service Leadership), Sherry Blue (Distinguished Service), Gwen Tarver (Distinguished Service), Argenia Anderson (Dedicated Service), Esther Snowden (Outstanding Leadership), Jarvis Adams (Outstanding Leadership), Rev. James E. Smith (Outstanding Leadership), and Marguerite Warren (Outstanding Leadership).

According to 2015 honoree Marguerite Warren, alums and friends enjoyed great camaraderie at the convention. She said, “I am honored to be recognized by my fellow alums. We had a lot of fun, talking and reminiscing about our experiences at Edward Waters College. While the weekend was like a trip down memory lane and we lauded our alumni and friends for their achievements, we focused on our mission – improving the present and future for our alma mater.”
