The 2017 Essence Festival was attended by hundreds of thousands of fans devoted to the magazines mission and focus.
Oscar Award-winning actress and style icon Halle Berry kicked off the daytime activities and headlining this year’s festival concert were artist Mary J Blige, Solange Knowles, Escape, Kelley Price , Diana Ross and more!
Stepping up to the empowerment session stage was Iyanla Vanzant, and Queen Latifah, panelists for the “Strength of a Woman,” symposium, hosted by news anchor Tamron Hall. Panelist conversation centered on healing, love, life and the importance of sisterhood. Director and producer Ava Marie DuVernay received the Essence Festival 2017 inaugural Woke Woman award, “Woke is so much more than marching and protesting, it’s about being here for each other,” she said.
“We really enjoyed the festival. Each year we plan on attending the festival and this year we made it! Essence is still on the cutting edge with performers, seminars and more to inspire black women to be all they can be and to continue the fight for women’s equal rights and justice,” said Venetia.
