Approximately 350 formally clad revelers enjoyed a special evening on Saturday, February 28th as they celebrated Mardi Gras at the “Masquerade In Elegance” Formal Ball hosted by Team “Victoryus” of the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

The festivities, which took place at the Adam W. Herbert University Center, kicked off in style at 7:30 p.m. as guests entered the affair to the sounds of traditional New Orleans “second line” music.
Mayor Alvin Brown and JAC DST President Karen Kincade were on hand to greet the masked partygoers as they walked the red carpet to enter the ballroom, which was decked in elegant decor including floating balloons and illuminated golden mesh centerpieces.

Following being escorted to tables named after famous streets in New Orleans, guests dined on cajun cuisine and danced to live musical entertainment by Eric Carter and Company featuring Willette Gatlin. DJ Skillz was also on hand to keep the crowd moving on the dance floor.

Highlights of the evening included an opening ceremony with costumed performers and second line dancing under decorated umbrellas, special recognition of Congresswoman Corrine Brown and Joe Wilson, a best mask contest, door prize drawings, silent auction, and photo shoots against Mardi Gras themed backdrops. Proceeds will benefit the charitable and educational projects/programs of the sorority.
