By Victor Omondi – In 2016, just after the elections, Dave Chappelle was the first guest on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. And now fours later, the three-time Grammy winner happened to host the Saturday’s episode, again the first show after the 2020 elections.
Even though the air was filled with excitement following Biden’s victory, Chappelle’s opening monologue still contained stinging comments on race and the health crisis that’s plaguing the country.Chappelle made fun of how mass shooting in America has subsided due to the pandemic.
“You guys remember what life was like before COVID?” said Chappelle. “I do. A mass shooting every week. Does anyone remember that? Thank God for COVID. Someone had to lock these murderous whites up, keep them in the house.”
Humorously, he also rebuked the white people who refused to wear masks during the pandemic. There so many documented cases of white Americans who refused to wear face coverings or protective masks inside airplanes and stores.
