Jacksonville, FL – The Florida League of Cities, the united voice for Florida’s municipal governments, has announced the appointment of Jacksonville City Council Member Rahman Johnson to serve on the 2024-2025 Development, Code Compliance, and Redevelopment Committee. This is one of the League’s five Legislative Policy Committees. Johnson was appointed by Mayor Donna Deegan to the Board of Directors for the League earlier this year.
The Development, Code Compliance, and Redevelopment Committee plays a crucial role in shaping the League’s legislative priorities, focusing on issues related to municipal development, code enforcement, and urban renewal. Johnson’s appointment to this committee reflects his commitment to enhancing Jacksonville’s growth and development while ensuring effective code compliance and redevelopment practices.
“My experience on the Land Use and Zoning Committee with the council and passion for Downtown Development has given me a strong understanding of code compliance and the needed reforms. Serving on this committee presents an opportunity to further increase Jacksonville’s influence on development and zoning legislation,” said Johnson.
The committee, appointed by League President Michael C. Blake – Mayor of Cocoa, has plans to meet several times before the 2025 Florida Legislature Annual Session.
“Jacksonville is growing significantly. It’s essential that we have a strong voice in discussions that impact our development.”
During his service on the committee Council Member Johnson is committed to ensuring that laws passed on the state level support local initiatives related to infrastructure improvement, redevelopment, and municipal code enforcement. His involvement will help ensure that Jacksonville’s unique needs are considered in statewide policy discussions.
