CEO of The Gathering Spot Ryan Wilson moderated a “Brothas and Brews” event with with producer, rapper, and activist Jermaine Dupri, producer, CEO, and activist Isaac Hayes III, rapper, singer, and activist Armani White, Atlanta Public School Board Member Shivy Brooks, North Fulton County Democrats Chair Dontaye Carter, Team Harris-Walz, and the Democratic Party of Georgia to underscore the stakes of this election for Black men in Georgia.
During the discussion, they highlighted Vice President Harris’ record delivering for Black communities and her vision for a New Way Forward to lower costs, make it easier to build generational wealth, and protect our rights and freedoms – while Donald Trump and JD Vance’s extreme Project 2025 agenda would give Trump unprecedented, unchecked power to enact his extreme and dangerous agenda and drag our country back to the past.
“If you’re from Atlanta, If you live in this city and you’re a Black man, I don’t see how you’re voting for the other side,” said producer, rapper, and activist Jermaine Dupri. “Listen, I’m telling you. If you live in this city, you love the way this city moves, it’s no way possible you should be voting for the other side.”
“The vote is important,” said producer, CEO, and activist Isaac Hayes III. “You can also vote in your midterms, in your city [elections] to get agendas passed on your behalf. […] If anybody’s read Project 2025 or heard about Project 2025, take a look at it, understand what it’s about. They want to take away the Department of Education [and] they want to strip rights away.”
“Vice President Harris is committed to supporting minority-owned small businesses and has plans to increase generational wealth by expanding the startup tax deduction for small businesses from $5,000 to $50,000,” said CEO of The Gathering Spot Ryan Wilson. “Meanwhile, Donald Trump and his Project 2025 will raise taxes for Black and Brown people and give taxes to the wealthiest Americans.”
“In 2020 Black men showed up, and we showed up again in 2022 for Georgia. We have to have that same belief in 2024, in 2025, in 2026,” said North Fulton County Democrats Chair Dontaye Carter. “Black men are the second largest voting bloc in the Democratic Party behind only Black women. We have always understood the assignment. We can’t allow misinformation and false narratives to dictate how we feel about voting. If that was the mentality of Dr. King, Fred Gray, Thurgood Marshall, we would not be where we are today.”
“When you look at this campaign, Georgians have a clear choice. Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda would end the Department of Education, forever,” said Atlanta Public School Board Member Shivy Brooks. “This election is about making sure everyone has a plan. We need to reach out to our families, our friends and our communities to make sure we have a plan to vote early and in person.”
