Community Champion Walette Stanford Lauded for Community Service

St. James AME Church in Orange Park celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a program promoting black businesses, supporting students and recognizing community leaders. The church awarded scholarships for after-school programs and to students at Edward Waters University. Among the honorees was Mrs. Walette Stanford, recipient of the Community Service Leader Award.

This was definitely a surprise. I don’t expect to be recognized for the work that I do and I don’t do it alone. I’m glad that I have the time and resources to give back,” said Stanford. She was awarded for working diligently and faithful at her church and leadership roles as an executive with JEA, President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Pi Eta Omega Chapter, and a member of The Links, Incorporated. A 15 year member of St. James AME Church, Stanford arrived in Clay County via her father’s military career and has been married for 22 years and is the mother of two adult sons.
