Family & friends will gather to honor Dr. Anita Vernell Carter Allen, who passed away on September 30, 2019, at the age of 78. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 10 AM at the Hyatt Jacksonville Riverfront Hotel, with interment following at Restlawn Memorial Park. A viewing is scheduled for Friday October 11th from 5 pm – 7 pm at J.E. Fralin & Sons Funeral Home.
A native of Ft. Pierce, Florida, Dr. Carter Allen earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Jacksonville University, and a Doctorate in Christian Psychology from Truth Bible College & Seminary
A beloved teacher, she retired from Duval County Public Schools in 1998 with 31 years of service. She was passionate about God and her faith, education, and believed in the value of empowering others – having served as Owner & Director of the W.T. Allen Christian Childcare Center and Founder of the Christian Girls Club Ministry, Inc. She was dedicated to music and mentoring ministries at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, New Life United Methodist Church and King of Kings Christian Church. Additionally, she was a Life Member of the FAMU Alumni Association and a Silver Member of the NAACP.
The love of her life, her husband, Willie Thomas Allen, preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving daughter, Wilnita Allen Meadows and son-in-law, Kenyon Meadows, and grand-daughters, Camille and Gabrielle Meadows. Sisters: Annie Pearl Meade and Connie Carter Cummings, a brother, Kenneth Carter (Pam), and a host of relatives, loved ones and friends.
