Breast Cancer Awareness is Focus of Sister Strut

Shown is Sister Strut team: Jackie Riviera, Vanessa Payne, Brittney Laramore, Yuka Kato, Michelle Law and Michelle Payne.

On a breast cancer journey of survival, fitness and health, recent survivor Vanessa Payne and her team joined together and registered for Duvals’ 8th annual Sista Strut 3K walk. Speakers, runners and volunteers gathered in front of 121 Financial Stadium to meet and greet their ‘sista’s from previous years, while making new friends.  The 10 year Sista Strut 3K walk is held in select cities across the country each year to heighten awareness about the issues of breast cancer in women of color, as well as provide information on community resources. In Jacksonville, the annual campaign continues to heighten awareness about the issues of breast cancer, specifically in women of color. Black women are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer before age 40 and are more likely to be diagnosed with larger tumors. Awareness of these issues will help survival rates with earlier diagnoses. For more info visit www.sistastrut.org
