Alice Comer Moore Denson October 21, 1936 – August 14, 2021

Alice Comer Moore Denson was born on October 21, 1936, in Eufaula, Alabama, the youngest child of Lee Moore Sr. and Georgia McDonald Moore. She graduated from Van Buren High School in Eufaula, Alabama. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Albany State University and her Master of Arts Degree in Guidance Counseling from Florida A&M University (FAMU). During her studies, Alice participated in the Women’s League, National Education Association, was on the basketball team and in the band. Alice was a 38- year veteran of the Duval County Public Schools, working in several elementary schools as a dedicated educator and a Guidance Counselor; eventually retiring from Andrew Robinson Elementary School in 1998.  Alice was a Board Member of Ducote Federal Credit Union. Alice was a member of the Eastern Star. She also was a life member of National Sorority Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. Delta Delta Chapter; serving in the positions of Treasurer, Financial Secretary, President, and as a youth advisor for the chapter’s youth guidance group (Xinos). She was honored as Soror of The Year in 1992. Alice maintained a close and dedicated relationship with God. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at a young age and was a faithful member of Dayspring Baptist Church for many years where she served on the usher board. She later transferred her membership to Woodlawn Presbyterian Church.

Alice was known for her good sense of humor, her enjoyment of various card games, and her love of traveling. She looked forward to spending time with family and friends at family reunions, special events & gatherings, and various social clubs. She was a significant presence in her grandchildren lives rarely missing any of their events or activities. After retirement, she continued her volunteerism with various organizations and with privately contributing to support causes she believed in. Additionally, she could often be seen standing guard as a Security Officer at events for the city of Jacksonville.

On Saturday morning, August 14, 2021, at the age of 84, the Lord took Alice gently by the hand and led her to eternal peace. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Lee and Georgia Moore, and ten siblings: Ella Louise (Eloise) Phillips, Harrison Lee Moore, William Clinton Moore Sr., Roxie Anna Moore Stewart, Jannie Cora Moore Jackson, Lee Moore Jr., George Robert Moore Sr., McDonald Moore Sr., Kathleen Moore Pitts, and Shorter Moore.

Alice was married to Thomas Denson for over 65 years and to this union four daughters were born. She leaves to cherish the precious memories of her kindness, giving, and love her husband Thomas, her daughters: Constello (Della) Denson-L’Heureux, Thomasena Denson-Dorsey (Fred) of Atlanta, GA, Lea Denson-Griffin (Henry), and Alyce Denson; eight grandchildren: Marcellus Denson, Shawnnay Holland of Eastvale, CA, Overton Spence Jr. of Houston, TX, Arielle Griffin of Falls Church, VA, David Harris of Fort Mill, SC, Jonathan Griffin, Kayla Harris, and Jillian Griffin; six great-grandchildren: Amber Holland, Donte Denson, Alexus Holland, Maya Denson, Lawson Holland, and Hezakia Jones; one great great-grandson Deon Denson; her sister Louie Arthur Moore Marshall of Albany, GA; sister-in-law Carrie Moore of Mobile, AL; brother-in-law James Stewart of Raleigh-Durham, NC; brother-in-law Homer (Ethel) Denson of Chicago, IL; special son-in-law, Virgil Harris;

and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
