Designed to educate and engage the Duval population, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated Alpha Beta Eta Omega chapter held a Community Engagement Forum at the New Bethel AME Church on the functions of the Duval County School Board and the Soil and Water Conservation District. More than fifty community residents attended for a complimentary breakfast to hear speakers Duval County Public School Board (DCSB) Chair Darryl Willie and Kym Wallace Maye, Soil and Water Commissioner. The purpose of the forum was to present information to community residents on the upcoming election and make citizens aware of the necessity of knowing what is important in choosing your local representative. Attendees were also informed that money is available for community gardens if residents are willing to share in the produce. The forum wrapped up with a recap of the round table conversation challenge of answering the moderator’s presentation questions, resulting in the distribution of ten $10 gift cards to the participants who responded correctly.
Next up for the chapter is their “Building our Economic Legacy” information session on finances, scheduled for March 30th at the Beaver Street Enterprise Center.
