The Friends of the Brentwood Public Library, Inc. (FOBL) recently celebrating the success of Mr. T’s Reading Challenge, a literacy initiative designed to inspire and strengthen reading skills among early learners in grades K–2. Rooted in FOBL’s mission to promote education, literacy, and equitable access to resources, the program engaged students across four participating schools: KIPP Voice Academy, Highlands Estates Academy, Pickett Elementary, and Northshore Elementary. Students worked diligently to meet grade-level reading goals while earning points for completed books and building a lifelong love of reading. Each participating school received $425 in cash cards to reward student achievement. Highlands Estates Academy was named the overall top school, with students collectively reading over 17,000 pages, earning an additional $100 award for their outstanding accomplishment. “Mr. T’s Reading Challenge is more than a program—it’s a movement to ensure our children are equipped with the literacy skills they need to succeed,” said Sharon Coon, Founder of FBOL.
