48 Hour Film Festival Celebrates 20 Years in Jax

Shown are this years Audience Award Winner

Lights, camera, action! The Jacksonville 48 Hour Film Project celebrated its 20th anniversary this month, drawing nearly 40 film-making teams to a competition that has helped put the city on the international film map.

Led by husband-and-wife filmmakers Adam and Monique Madrid, the annual event challenges teams to write, shoot and edit a short film in just 48 hours. The couple also founded the LOL (Loving our Locals) Film Festival to champion Jacksonville filmmakers. Among the festivals biggest success stories is Team Jartoman whose 2023 film “Threshold” earned international recognition and a screening at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The team returned to the international spotlight in 2025 with “Woof.”

This year’s Audience Choice Award winners include: “Doober R Us” by Purpose Inspired Films, “Don’t Quit Your Day Job,” by Neon Tide Productions and “Butterflies,” by Team Jartoman.

The celebration continues October 28th at 7 p.m. with the Best of Show Awards at WJCT Studios.
