This year’s Women of Color Cultural Foundation ‘Go Red’ theme represented the annual Heart of a Women Luncheon event for women to learn the signs of a heart attack, signs of a stroke and how to correctly manage stress.

The annual luncheon’s goal  is to educate women of all ages to take care of their cardiovascular health; more importantly, how to detect signs of health problems that are clearly different for women.

Specializing in women’s health care, speakers included: Mona Shah, MD, a Cardiologist and Board Certified in Integrative Holistic Medicine at Baptist Medical Center; Tra’Chella Johnson Foy, MD – a Board Certified Medicine Physician at Baptist Medical Center;  and Katherine Sione, ARPN – a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner at River Region Human Services.

Dr. Mona Shah educated the more than 200 participants on how the heart is miraculously integrative with holistic medicine and reminded the audience that treatment involves not only a patient’s symptoms but also working with your doctor to make changes in nutrition choices, stress levels and meditation in order to improve heart health.  Tra’Chella Johnson Foy MD expertly guided participants through diabetes diagnosis and treatment options so women can feel comfortable making these important decisions. Dr Sione, ARPN taught what mental wellness looks like in practical terms and shared her vast experience in the medical field and mental health “We learned the importance of identifying and addressing psychosocial and systemic barriers to wellness and how to change our lfiestyles that contribute to heart health,” said organizer Dr. Helen Jackson.

Women of Color Cultural Foundation strives to provide correct and update dated information regarding women’s health on an annual basis, with an emphasis on financial literary, growth, development, youth summits and volunteerism. Next year’s Heart of a Woman luncheon will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024. To learn more visit www.woccf.org.
