Councilman Terrance Freeman, the current Vice President of the Jacksonville City Council, recently became Council President and is the second straight Black Republican at large Councilman to hold the position. Running for re-election, Freeman will take over as current President in 2023. Republicans Sam Newby and Terrance Freeman made history as the first Black politicians to serve as Council President and Vice President at the same time.

As a Army veteran and professional baseball career on his resume, Terrance served as  Political Affairs Manager for the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and then served as Executive Council Assistant for City Council Member Aaron Bowman. Freeman’s mission is unity, truth and being a peacemaker. Councilwoman Jucoby Pittman nominated Republican Ron Salem for the VP position and his nomination was accepted by the sitting council.
