(Source: www.washingtoninformer.com) – Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., in commemoration of its centennial, has gifted Howard University with $500,000 to establish a scholarship fund for students in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
Scholarships will be provided to Howard undergraduate juniors and seniors who meet the requirements of the Karsh STEM Scholars program, the university announced this month. Among other requirements, eligible students must be pursuing degrees in STEM-related fields with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The sorority, founded at Howard University in 1920, said the Zeta Founders’ Endowed Scholarship Fund is meant to inspire students in STEM-related fields as exemplified by the late Marjay D. Anderson, a Zeta who served as a scientist, educator and academician at Howard.
“Sorority members, friends and family continue to invest in this fund to advance Howard University’s efforts to increase the representation of minorities studying science, technology, engineering and math, while honoring Zeta’s founders with this lasting footprint,” said 20th International President and 2020 Centennial Chair Jylla Moore Tearte.
