Jacksonville — The Duval Voting Rights Coalition, a group of grassroots and community organizations, is kicking off early voting at the newly re-opened early voting site at Edward Waters University (EWU) with a press event, on August 5, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. The re-opening of Edward Waters University as an early voting site represents the most recent win for Black and young voters alike, made possible by multiple years of intense advocacy by students, community organizations, and leaders. Amidst many changes this year to election day sites & early voting sites in Duval County, the re-opening of this new voting site is critical for equitable access to voting sites and our ability to exercise our power to vote.
The purpose of this press event is to highlight the historical significance of and celebrate the re-opening of the Edward Waters University early voting site, highlight other changes in voting sites this year, and the need for a fully funded Supervisor of Elections budget to inform the community about changes to voting, and to empower community members to vote early and to spread the word to their communities.
