The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced that acclaimed award-winning actress Viola Davis will be honored with the 2,597 star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Davis’ star will be dedicated January 5, 2017 at 7013 Hollywood Boulevard in front of Marshall’s Department Store and across the street from the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
“Viola is one of the actresses who always mesmerizes fans with her talent,” said Ana Martinez, Walk of Fame producer. “She is amazing and we are thrilled that she will grace our world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
Academy Award-winning actress and Walk of Fame Star Meryl Streep will help unveil Davis’ star. Viewers can watch the event live on http://www.walkoffame.com.
Davis, a native of Central Falls, R.I., began her acting career after graduating from The Julliard School of Dance, Drama and Music in New York City.
She currently can be seen in the feature film “Fences” with two-time Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington. Washington directed and starred in the film, which is based on a critically-acclaimed play of the same name, written by August Wilson.
“Fences” opened in select cities December 16th and it is scheduled for wide release Christmas Day. Davis and Washington were nominated for Golden Globes for their performances in “Fences,” which is often a gateway to an Academy Award nomination.
Davis received a Oscar nomination for best actress for the the 2012 film “The Help.” Last year, she received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress in a Drama Series. In addition, she was first African American to receive the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. This year, Davis received her second Screen Actors Guild Award.
She is currently starring in the television series “How to Get Away with Murder.”
