WJCT Public Media collaborated with local partners to collect sweaters, jackets and blankets throughout the month of November for the 20th annual Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive. Cold-weather clothing and items such as new gently used sweaters, jackets and blankets, were collected for the underserved in the northeast Florida community. The items were distributed throughout Northeast Florida in Duval, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns Counties. Approximately 50 employees and executives from these organizations delivered the items to the Clara White Mission and City Rescue Mission. Since its local launch in 2002, the drive has collected more than a quarter million articles of clothing and cold-weather necessities for First Coast residents.

The holidays are known as the season of giving. Sharing your time or money with people in less fortunate situations is scientifically proven to harbor personal growth. Self-worth is promoted by knowing one can help others obtain essential items during the holiday season. Donating prompts the recognition of privilege to be able to spend time and money on others over the holidays. Giving is also a a form of gratitude, whether you rare on the giving or receiving end; it is essential to happiness, health and social bonds. Through the simple act of a sparing sweater or blanket, the holiday mission of giving is shared.
